Maron has made the point many times on his podcast that a standup is a different kind of comic than an improv or sketch comic as he chooses to work alone. I don't see how a sitcom can work that way. Maybe when some more characters are introduced it will pick up. Denis Leary is an EP and appeared as a podcast guest in order to set the plot in motion.
