I am not a Wheel Watcher (as the old promo went), but on the occasional
chances I do catch it, I've always been impressed with how the writers have
mastered the art of the bonus round puzzle.

Because the contestants now get the big six (R, S, T, L, N, E), the puzzle
writers have made it a game of chance on which letters you pick with your
three consonants and a vowel. They have two basic rules:

* a two or three word puzzle.
* a letter pattern that makes it very easy to solve if you pick the right
one or two letters, but almost impossible to do without it.

Thursday night, Autumn Ernhard faced this "thing": T _ _ _ _ _ _ R _ _ _
T.

She called for an M, P, C, and A. She picked up a Wild Card during the game
(giving her a fourth consonant), and she called for a G.

The board returned: T _ _ G _ _ _ R _ _ _ T

One of the things I find interesting is that the next frequent consonants
are C, D, P and the next vowel is either A (Oxford English Dictionary) or I
(Scrabble Words). I'd assign a clone to see how frequently these letters
are called by players if I had one.
