The worst part for the cable news networks is that they missed out on some
amazing television. No matter what side of the debate you are on, it was
impossible to take your eyes off the stream, and the crowd in the gallery
simply refusing to let the Republican majority push through what they felt
was an unjust vote was a triumphant display of Civil Disobedience. It
actually made this transplanted Yankee proud to be a Texan.

Even more shameful was that the local stations here in the Dallas-Fort Worth
area gave it only the obligatory coverage and cut to the late night shows
after their news broadcasts right as the action in statehouse was reaching
the critical point.

Subject: [TV orNotTV] Real Breaking News in TX Tues. (Not That Cable Was
Paying Attention to It)

Late Tuesday night, Texas state legislator Wendy Davis was wrapping up what
turned out to be a successful real honest-to-goodness filibuster to stop
voting on a bill to ban abortion clinics, the kind of story that you would
think cable news would salivate over--but the Big 3 channels were in
late-night rerun mode, which meant that one had to go to the Internet and
the Texas Tribune's online stream to see this legitimately big news
event--wha? (and no, Amy Goodman-ites, I don't think it's the "corporate
media," because if that was true Rachel Maddow wouldn't have even covered
the earlier parts of the story on her show that night because Comcast
wouldn't had let her):

c-abortion-vote-texas-99986

And oh yes, MSNBC's excuse was that the Maddow show covered the lead-up and
that Maddow's blog had embedded the Texas Tribune live stream. CNN and FNC
didn't say nothin' to the Wrap (I suspect that lame-duck Current didn't
cover it and that BBC World News thought it was too parochial, although I
would hope that Katty Kay had it the next day on "World News America").
