There had been some celebrity live-tweeting of other shark/water-themed SyFy
'original' 'movies' in the last few weeks, so I would guess that Sharknado was
heavily promoted during those films.  But that doesn't quite explain the
dramatic increase, IMO.

While Shark Week is nigh, I haven't seen evidence of major cross-promotion
between the Universal family of networks and the Discovery bunch.  But I wasn't
looking for it.

are not kidding), with celebs joining in the wisecracking like Elizabeth Banks,
"Lost" creator Damon Lindlof and Patton Oswalt, among others--looks like Skiffy

Does anyone know what drove this tweeting flash mob? I use Tweetdeck and I have
a column for a group of beat writers for the Pittsburgh Penguins and two
reporters, for competing papers, live tweeted the movie last night. There were
retweets from other hockey writers so somehow this became an event.

For a savvy network or cable channel, this seems like a good way to draw
ratings for a mediocre movie or show.
