Needing desperately to get away for a few days, I'm heading to South Dakota because it is the closest state to me that has free touristy things to do. Among the places I'll be going to are Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Deadwood. It was Tom's old stomping ground, and heading there this weekend I lament that he and I never met face-to-face. His is still the barometer I use when ranking online wit. Tom's name might never appear in any history book about the internet, but as I see others post online lists or satirical reviews or impart quick retorts that say in eight words what the rest of us couldn't say in eight-hundred, I genuinely feel they all owe a nod of respect to Tom. He didn't invent it and he didn't hold the patent on it, but he sure knew how to use it.
Anyway, I don't recall if any other TVorNotTVers live in or around the region, but if any of you are there and want to meet in Deadwood for a drink Sunday night, let me know. And on one more personal note, I have a phone interview for a job in an actual city/state where people drink for social reasons. Thoughts/prayers encouraged but not mandated. -- Kevin M.
