On the other hand, it was when the musical acts started writing their own
songs was when they started making real money. The Beatles and Rolling
Stones would only have limited success if they had continued covering
American blues and R&B and if Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards had not
written original songs. It's no coincidence that "rock star" status first
came to the groups that wrote their own music.
