The LA sketch comedy troupe (and talent pipeline to "SNL") had a sketch in
their show this past summer about two Tina Turner impersonators performing
in a casino and musing on life in between verses of "Proud Mary"--and it
seems that this past Saturday, "SNL" had a sketch about *three* Tina Turner
impersonators (played by Cecily Strong, guest host Sarah Silverman
and Sasheer Zamata) performing at a Nebraska riverboat casino and musing
on life in between verses of "Proud Mary." The two Groundlings performers
and a teacher at the company posted on Facebook accusing "SNL" of stealing
their bit (and the teacher intimated that the TV show has stolen from the
Groundlings many times)--the link includes both sketches (the original just
posted on YouTube yesterday, which is a little suspect if you ask me) and
you can decide for yourself:

Personally, yes there's a similarity, but the "SNL" sketch is not a
line-for-line lift of the original and it seems to me that unless the
Groundlings can point to reservation lists with Lorne Michaels or "SNL"
writers' names on them, it would be hard to prove plagiarism.
