Except that I spent 17 years working in cable and I remember when the thrust/appeal of cable was to have niche programming. You wanted music, you turned on MTV. You wanted news, you turned on CNN. You want weather, you turned on TWC. A hundred channels each with their own appeal. (And it was the broadcast stations that programmed for the masses.) Now it seems like no matter what the name of the channel is, all they do is show reruns from the broadcast networks. And, if I want to know what to expect from the weather in the next 24 hours, I shouldn't have to wait until a show about prospectors is over. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mark Jeffries To: tvornottv@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, December 03, 2014 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [TV orNotTV] And what do any of these have to do with providingweather information?
The return to weather programming was during the day on weekdays. Prime time didn't change and I'm sure they'll argue that the only way they can remain competitive in prime time is airing shows that ask their audiences to stay for a half-hour, not a few minutes during the commercial break of another program. Advertisers have a hostility to radio-formatted television--just ask people who worked back in the day at HLN, MTV and VH1--and TWC.
