Charming and ever-sophisticated, his John Steed character showed this 
American kid the virtues of style, wit, class and unflappable resilience in 
the face of trouble. Apparently, those qualities that Macnee embodied could 
earn you the respect and companionship of a woman like Emma Peel. I took 
notes. Needless to say, Mr. Macnee was an inspiration and endlessly 
entertaining on screen.
