Don't forget. Clancy made use (with his co-writers before his death, who continue the franchise even now) of Jack Ryan... Jr. In fact, the most recent book I read (classified as a Jack Ryan novel) was released in July 2015. If the goal is to have situated in a contemporary setting, they could simply go with Jr. and reserve old man Ryan's character for some acting veteran on a guest basis. Are we sure it's the senior Ryan and not the Ryan the younger?
