Because developing a talent in the ARTS takes years of hard work and skill at performing that talent. A monologue, no matter how heartfelt, does not.
BTW I have about zero knowledge of dance (I did take a little ballet and tap as a young child and I know how much work is involved at becoming good at it). And, I don’t care for clogging in the least. But if it takes years of hard work to become a good clogger (and I have no reason to assume that it doesn’t), then yes, demonstrating skill in clogging is less deserving of eye-rolling than Miss Colorado’s monologue. But the question remains, once we establish that we are allowed to roll our eyes at some of the talents, how is it that a dramatic presentation on a real life experience from a contestant's actual nursing career, that was transformative of both her patient's and her own life, is more deserving of eye rolling than clogging or tap dancing? I suppose I should disclose that I work at a school with a nursing program, and I noticed how pumped so many of the young women were about the Nursing oration - and then how hurt and angry they were when The View people took a dump on it. Of course the obvious and most healthy response is to point out how few fucks real women should give about either Miss America or The View, but the fact is many do, and it kind of sucks they chose this talent, of all possible talents attractive young women are presented as having, to belittle.
