If it's Thursday night, it must be football. So according to the WSJ, the
NFL is close to a deal with CBS and NBC so that they both can carry NFL
games on Thursday nights. The deal would be that NBC and CBS each get 5
games (cumulatively more games on broadcast, but less for each individual
network than this season's 8 for CBS). However, the NFL wants to schedule
each network's games at random weeks, rather than group them so each
network gets 5 together, presumably so people give up trying to find the
game and just ask their local cable company for the NFL Network, where you
know the Thursday game will air. Maybe once I finish this email, the deal
will be NBC gets the first quarter and half of second quarter. CBS gets the
second half of the second quarter and the third quarter, while the fourth
quarter is an NFL Network exclusive.

House always wins.
