It seems to me that in a world where, faced with this programming glut, critics are only writing about shows they love, like or want to like, Stuever wants to be the one saying "Hey! Look!" TeeVee is still banal!" Last year, he wrote what I thought was a very uncalled-for slam of "Hollywood Game Night" which was one of those "game shows are scum" diatribes that critics used to do when they couldn't come up with a column. It's not that I think that "HGN" is the best game show ever--it isn't due to execution, because the basic idea is sound--but it seems to me that if you were going to do a slam, there's a lot more worthy targets out there, especially on TLC and Bravo.
