This is a self-effacing special on Netflix featuring Michael Bolton by the creators of “Comedy Bang Bang.” If you don’t like “Comedy Bang Bang” style humor, this is not for you.
I guess I’m a sucker for comedies when the stars poke fun at themselves. Like Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Amazon pilot. Bolton sends up his singer persona using dry, jarring “Comedy Bang Bang” jokes. It’s loaded with cameos from the improv and stand-up comedy world. The plot is that the elves made too many toys and Santa recruits Michael Bolton to encourage people to produce an extra 75,000 babies to save Christmas. So there’s a telethon and they count of the number of extra babies Bolton helped produce on a ticker board. The second half features serious singing by Bolton and it starts to drag as it comes to its climax. It’s not perfect but there’s enough good jokes I give it a mild thumbs up. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
