This is not settled at all as J.M. Smucker,the peanut butter company that owns 
JIF, in an effort to protect their brand or to get publicity, HAS NO STANDING 
on how to pronounce the Graphic Interchange Format created in 1987 by Steve 
Wilhite and his team at CompuServe.
Wilhite himself said, as recently as two years ago, that it's pronounced "jif", 
with the soft "g" sound and so that's how I will continue to pronounce it.
