That football feels obligated to fill every freaking day of the calendar
belies both a great insecurity in its product and a total indoctrination of its
audience.

I don’t care about any of that. Once upon a time the Super Bowl ended in early
February and you didn’t hear anything about the NFL until you turned on the
news  the day of, or opened your newspaper the day after the draft. Now as soon
as the big game is over the mock drafts immediately start and even though they
are meaningless they continue for two and a half months. It’s not like I’m
looking for them or any NFL news. They just happen to occupy the most prominent
part of sports sites and the twitter feeds of local beat writers.

Ask the advertisers on the ABC version. Whatever the Bristol Bunch loses on its
linear channels, they more-than-make up on ABC and streaming.
Even a media person who covers the draft, onetime labour lawyer Mike Florio,
called it "un-American" recently, although he is pitching a book...

Tom Wolper, April 28th:

Why is this night different from all other nights?
On all other nights we do mock drafts. Tonight we do the real one.
