While the Subject Header here is accurate, it would also be accurate to say
that Dave’s People edited out lots of non anti-Semitic remarks. As the The
Wrap piece makes clear, Dave’s Netflix show is not really an hour long
version of his old talk show panels; the final show contains like 20% of
the material they recorded.

That does not by itself justify the particular editorial judgements made,
and while I mostly enjoy Dave’s show (I have intentionally chosen not to
watch the West interview, so can’t not comment directly) it does sometimes
feel a little too fluffy and airy, as if the point is to show how mellow
and accepting old man Dave has become. If young Dave was sometimes accused
of ambushing and being mean and inhospitable to his guests, old Dave can
maybe be accused of something of the opposite.

Also, while I do not for a minute view West’s mental illness as an excuse
for his anti-Semitic and other kinds of hateful speech, I do see the
challenge posed to Dave’s People so soon after West announced his Bipolar
diagnosis. If they make a third of the show a spotlight on what must have
seemed like a manic episode, wouldn’t they be open to criticism of
exploiting a sick man?

In retrospect perhaps best to have pulled the plug on the whole project on
the basis that the man was obviously not well, though really, it has been
clear for some time that the guy is not well, and that did not sop a long
line of entities from trying to profit off of his fame and following.
