For the first time in the 72-year history of the UK singles charts, a
record has repeated as the Christmas week number 1 for two years in a
row--Wham!'s 1984 song, the much-maligned "Last Christmas":

The repeat was helped by the release of various limited-edition
collectables marking the record's 40th anniversary--the only other song to
hit Christmas No. 1 in separate years in the same version was Queen's
"Bohemian Rhapsody" (1976 and 1991, after Freddie Mercury's death)--the
Band Aid charity song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" hit the top in 1984
(keeping "Last Christmas" out of the top in its original release year),
1989 and 2004, but in different versions, and "Mary's Boy Child" went to
the top in two different versions (Harry Belafonte in 1957 and the disco
group Boney M, from the man who would later bring you Milli Vanilli, in
1978)--the rest of the Top 5 is "APT," the duet from K-Popper Rose and
Bruno Mars at 5, singer-songwriter Tom Grennan's "It Can't Be Christmas" at
4 (which was only available through Amazon), That Mariah Carey Record at 3
and J.J. Abrams' daughter Gracie Abrams' "That's So True" at 2.

Meanwhile in the States, number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Christmas week
is--That Mariah Carey Record. Again.
