When we look back at what was mainstream culture for the formative years of
some of us, we will have to account for valorizing law enforcement
officials who turned to violence, often in the service of racism or
misogyny. We were told to look up to Dirty Harry, Buford Pusser, and Billy
Jack (ok a freelancer and not law enforcement). The idea that the real
Pusser was a criminal is not surprising.
