It isn't just a lack of signal. A dish that small is venerable to adjacent sat interfeerence. You can get an expensive low noise lnb which helps but that is kind of like turning the squelch down on a cb radio. You get a lot of noise.
I had a 4DTV running with a 5.5' dish. I would not reccomend it. I'd consider 8' as a minimum and go bigger if you can if c band is the plan. If you stick with ku a 1M dish will pretty much get anything you'll want to tune in.
