Log message:
  QuakeForge's console background was much better than ours.  I should know
  since I did the console background stuff.  The useful changes have been
  brought over, along with the Cvars cl_verstring and gl_constretch.  Unlike
  QF, gl_constretch defaults to on, it looks nifty with the Id conback, so
  deal with it.  =)
