However, what I did was copy the files and the subdirectries inside the newly created <random-string>.default/ directory The process of copying overwrote all the files. Launched thunderbird and voila the settings were read by the application. Currently, it seems to work fine. However, I am not sure about the downside since atleast one file (secmod.dat) had the string as <random-string>.default directory. Let's see.
