Hi all:

Some interesting results of Intel Core 2 running Linux.
Core2 refers to two processors
 - Core 2 Extreme (X 6800)
 - Core 2 Duo (E 6700

Each supports 4MB L2 Cache, clocks at 2.93GHz and 2.66GHz.
The Bus to Chipset clock operates at 1066MHz.
DDR2 - 800 Memory is supported.

Some interesting features are -

SpeedStep Technology
A feature designed to provide optimal processor and operation mode usage.
Basically, lower idle power usage and save on electricity through
less power draw and lower cooling costs.

Execute Disable Bit
A hardware-based technology that prevents malicious code from running
on your system without a user's knowledge.
Software must be written to support this feature !

Intel Virtualization Technology (IVT)
provides the ability to run multiple operating systems on a system
simultaneously.

Gentoo Linux 32-bit and 64-bit runs fine on this processor.
However, gcc compiler needs to be upgraded to take advantage of the new
instructions.
