Hi Naveen / Saifi,

The problem with knoppix it doesn't ship mplayer in Live CD. 
So you will have to install mplayer from any debian repository. 

The codecs required to read VCD are proprietary so they are not
shipped in the default Knoppix LIVE CD. 

Also you can try another player called xine  from this url
http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ 
and convert to deb with the command 
alien <name_fo_the_rpm>.rpm to give deb file and  
install the deb file. 

Now you will be able to watch vcd using xine.


Steps to Install xine
1. Download rpms from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/
2. Convert to DEBs using alien
3. Install resulting DEB's using dpkg -i <Filename>.deb
4. xine to see the VCD's and DVD's

Other Approach would be to install mplayer using synaptic.
