Hi all:

Recent experience with KDE crash made me readup more about KDE.

Found this interesting link on KDE which talks about performance.

Here are some things being discussed.

. Don't try to optimize too much
. A fast system makes KDE run fast
. Do not use obsolete versions
. Reducing number of running applications
. Removing applications from the Autostart folder
. Removing docked applications (in systray)
. Alarm daemon and KOrganizer alarm client
. Artsd
. KXKB
. Reducing startup time
    * KDE startup sound
    * The KDE splashscreen
    * Konqueror reusing
    * Konqueror preloading
    * Scanning for Netscape plugins
    * Directory prescanning in KDM
    * Faster startup of KDE applications outside of KDE
    * Turning off system configuration startup check (kbuildsycoca)
. Various KDE settings
    * Desktop background
    * Disabling various eye-candy features
    * Antialiasing

. Not really KDE things but worth checking anyway
    * /tmp/.ICE-unix
    * DMA for disk access
    * Problems with hostname resolution
