One of the best anti virus tool which is also free is ClamAV ( as Saifi pointed out). But now a days, th emajor problem is Worms and malware so you can also try www.spywareterminator.com which will also integrate ClamAV. The combination is good. Spyware Terminator is free both for personal use and for commercial use.
