Hello Ashwini:

OpenOffice.org project aim is to create - as a community,
the leading international office suite that will run on
 . "all" major platforms and
 . provide access to
     . "all" functionality
. "all" data through open-component based APIs
        and an XML-based file format

It has also pioneered the ISO/IEC standard OpenDocument file formats(ODF)
which it uses natively, by default.

Technically speaking, the OpenOffice API is based on a component technology
called 'Universal Network Objects (UNO). It consists of a wide range of
interfaces defined in a CORBA like IDL (interface definition language).

Please, take a look at
http://udk.openoffice.org/

I have been a user of OpenOffice since 2001 and it works fine on
FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS, Microsoft OS among others.

All the TWINCLING Society documentation, slides and brochures are prepared
using OpenOffice.

thanks
Saifi.
