hi,

I tried installing Fedora 8 from a DVD received along with LFY magazine this
month.
The system is AMD xp 2000+, 40GB HDD seagate 7200rpm , 512mb ram, Dvd
burner, lan card, 56kmodem card, Intervideo TV tuner card, xfx 5300 video
card.

The media check passed the DVD installation disc. Memtest passed the memory.

The Anaconda loader failed after going through part of initial info with
message that there is a program bug. I tried 5 more times. It failed at
different place at each time.

Then I tried installing UBUNTU which I got from UBUNTU central distribution
center.

First time it got stuck very early just as you enter information. Second
attempt it went through without any problem.

I would like to know whether others got similar problem with this particular
Fedora dvd.

I also like to have some advice regarding file system for each partition.
I have a 8GB partition for Windows XP
I used ext3 journaling type for root. 12GB
swap did not allow me to specify. 4GB
I used NFS journaling for /home 12 GB. I understand that this is suitable
for 64 bit systems and 32 bit systems can also access files from here. I
also read that this has superior capabilities to those of ext3.
I used FAT32 for part of rest of space for use as common partition by Linux
and Windows

Are the file system selection correct? Can I install UBUNTU 7.10 64bit
version as third OS ( in the FAT32 space). What file system I need to select
for this? Can it use swap already created and /home along with 32bit Ubuntu?
I have several other Linux versions Open Suse etc whatever is attached with
LFY magazine.

regards
V.C.mohan.
