Here are the steps do it manually:

. set runlevel to 3 in /etc/inittab
  id:3:initdefault:

. in your $HOME dir, run the shell command
  echo "exec startkde" > ~/.xinitrc

. now we need to test
  logout (CTRL-D)
  and login back again

. from the shell prompt run the command 'startx'

if everything goes fine, the KDE dekstop should start.

KDE is one of the finest desktops with polished applications.
The underlying technology Qt, DCOP, KDE plugins are wonderful
with excellent C++ code.

The KDE project has been focussed on innovation rather than
just making some feature available by copying.

KDE 4 is even more amazing with the innovative features that
have been incorporated.

Plan to join the TSM on July 12, for KDE 4.x hands-on and
technology discussions.

KDE + OpenSuSe rocks !
I have been using OpenSuSe 10.2 with KDE 3.5.7 for over last
3+ years on my wide-screen Compaq Laptop. No freezeups, no hangs
and its really fast.

Let me know if you face any issues.

thanks
Saifi.
