I think if you go ahead with Ubuntu u don't need to go thru partitioning 
even. It gives you an option to resize your existing partition by merely 
dragging it to the new size. The best thing is it gives a u a live 
session to test if you are going to run into any issues. If your desktop 
comes up fine u can go ahead and install without any issues.
