Hi Akhil: Here is the approach you "may" want to follow.
Connect your PC/Laptop to the Netgear router with the provided cable. Configure your networking in DHCP mode and then re-activate the system networking. Next ping your router with 'ping 192.168.1.1' Start your Firefox browser, http://192.168.1.1/ Default Userid/password is admin/password Select the 'manual configuration' option. The specify the following: 1. your VSNL userid and password. 2. subnet mask 255.255.255.0 3. default gateway 10.41.38.1 4. DNS Servers as 172.31.6.5 172.31.6.198 5. Test/Apply Changes. 6. Re-connect through the browser. 7. Specify the MAC address in the ACL list. (which is usually the output of the command ipconfig/all) 8. Disconnect the cable and stop the LAN service. 9. start the Wireless scan and try to locate the Router through a radio scan (you select the ESSID of your router) and try to connect. 10. After a few seconds, you would see the connected status. 11. Run ipconfig/all command to verify that you have an IP address like 192.168.1.2/24 (typically in that range). You're system is all set now ! Points to Note: 1. You don't need the software CD 2. The above mentioned configuration takes care of dialup 3. For additional security you can turn off ESSID broadcast. 4. Please change the Router userid/password. I'll encourage you to get rid of WinXP and try and install polished distros like 'OpenSuSe 11' on your laptop. Last but not the least, Please consider joining the mailing list http://groups.yahoo.com/group/twincling or forums at http://www.twincling.org/forum for faster response. thanks Saifi.
