It is very commonly used in embedded systems.
Among the (popular) companies that license PPC are Motorola , Samsung, Cisco for their routers, Nintendo for Wii, Microsoft for Xbox and Sony for Playstation 3. PPC stands for Power Performance Computing. It was born out of an alliance between Apple, IBM and Motorola. The part of Motorola which owned the PowerPC, spun off in 2004 - we know the company as Freescale Semiconductor. One of the very interesting aspects of this processor is that it can work in both little and big endian modes .... and the mode can be switched at runtime !
