How are you compiling LESS?

I'm using node.js and recess to do the compile, and I have the choice of 
compiling everything (e.g. adding my modifications to the bootstrap 
minimised output) or just compiling the file separately and minimising that.

There are also online compilers.

Or am I assuming the answer to the wrong question?
