I suspect you might have stumbled on to some control signal mechanism within Twitter's backend. There might be special words that you can send that somehow control aspect's of twitter's message routing and buffering backend when sent this way.
Alternatively there's some pattern matcher inside Twitter's backend (looking for special patterns in tweet text, such as retweet patterns or @mention patterns) that hiccups on this pattern.
