Our institute (National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan) has open
positions for assistant and associate professors.

They are like tenure-track positions, but granting tenure is reserved for
exceptional cases. The initial term is for seven years.
I am writing to you, as a member of the institute, to seek your
attention to this opportunity. This email is not an official announcement,
and I cannot speak for the institute. But I can certainly speak about my
experience:
- Research is the top priority here. Little teaching (~ one course every
two years for me); no undergrad students.
- You can still recruit and supervise grad students.
- Speaking Japanese is not needed at all (though it'll help your daily
life).
- I enjoy scientific freedom. Yes, freedom.
The open positions are for all disciplines of informatics, and the
competition will be tough, but you may still be interested in applying.
