Hi Lasse, have you tried it by using an IMG_RESOURCE object?
Though I'm afraid that won't be relevant compared to the long load times you're speaking of, you still may gain some performance by not doing the explosion and re-extracting for path, width and height then and at least will get a cleaner code.
