I never said it should be excluded. Infact it is an extension.
Simply I don't use it and don't recommend it.
But I found not acceptable to be forced to use it (as it seems going
to be).
AFAIK about the upcoming versions of the 4.x branch, you won't be
forced to use fluid or TemplaVoila at all.

What about version 5.x? We still want to use TYPO3, but we have the
feeling V5.x will break the most of features we use.
So, we are going to develop new extensions using "old" methods, but we
are upset for the future we see.

BTW: The next version of TYPO3 will be 4.4, followed by 4.5 and so on.
These are major releases, even though the change is going to happen only
after the dot.
The developers of the 5.x branch were just too optimistic about their
release cycles, which is why 5.x is blocked as a version number for a major
relase for about 4 years now.

With this in mind you could say that 5.x is not the next version of TYPO3
but a completely different product branch, that will be in a way related and
compatible to the 4.x branch but break a lot of 4.x concepts as well.

It would be interesting to know which version would the best for a fork.
The last one with useful improvements for all, before the "deluge" :-).
