I think a better analysis would be
1a. ttnews + mm_forum
or
1b. news + mm_forum
with
2. t3blog
I do miss the social-media integration, social bookmarking, etc.. out-of-the
box with ttnews
There are 3rd party extensions to extend ttnews - but each have their own
configuration learning-curve
while t3blog has more features already integrated
...
anyway - the quest continues for a setup supporting 3 features
1. News/Articles
2. Blog (less formal news + ramblings)
3. Forum (supporting the blog, news and other extensions like
products)/discussions
