very very strange! just tested under my 4.5.8 and it works maybe my differences: i'm with TV (but i get no edit even with the list module) and $TYPO3_CONF_VARS['BE']['explicitADmode'] = 'explicitAllow';
I try with explicitAllow instead of explicitDeny and I confirm the problem.
maybe you have weird TSconfig or ext_localconf.php somewhere messing up permissions?
