Even without knowing much about the underlying astro- and geophysics or what scientists in those fields can reasonably predict — the assertion that we'd go from accumulating a couple dozen, to near zero, to *thousands* strains basic numeracy. It's even more obviously false to those with a general understanding of derivatives and integrals, but that of course relies on the intermediate numeracy skills of one who might be reading such an article critically with a scientific mind. -- Tim Parenti
