Hi Heiko, perhaps you should take a look at the DA8XX driver. At least under Linux this driver also handles the AM335x.
Splash screen support (meaning support of the splashimage variable) might be a problem because it expects a direct mapped physical address where the splash image is stored - typically some onboard nor flash. But AM335x designs typically have MMC, NAND or SPI flash attached. So you probably need some commands to load the spashscreen from a flash device and then use the 'bmp' command to display it.
