ok, extracting the env as a blob isnt problematic, it's the addition of "ENV_IS_EMBEDDED_CUSTOM". the env is embedded in the final image that gets burned into flash, but not by u-boot. the external util takes cares of combining the u-boot ELF and the environment blob. but i guess i can split the patch into (1) add --binary to tools/envcrc and (2) add ENV_IS_EMBEDDED_CUSTOM. that way when (2) gets shot down again, at least (1) was added so it's one less thing for me to maintain out of tree. -mike
