The host is x86.

Sorry. I should've mentioned that I installed the ELDK 4.2 for 
ppc-linux-x86. I"m using powerpc-linux-gcc for cross-compiling.

what is the host architecture x86 or ppc?

If its x86 you need a cross compiler.
