Barry,

We've been doing 820's here for a while now.  It has been beneficial, with savings in 
labor, postage, etc. for check printing and dispersal.

I did not work on that project, but one who did had this to say:

"The 820 is a very simple document.  We do about thousands per month.  The major 
problem we ran into when starting the 820's was building the file for transmission.  
Our bank required that all 820 plus the 831 control totals for the batch be in one 
file with the 831 last.  We had a real time EDI system and had to rewrite the entire 
process so we could batch the 820's and control which files go into which 
transmissions."
