For Keep-Alive problems, try using Ethereal
to discover whether a firewall is the problem.

If you're using the Cisco VPN client version 3.x,
you must UNCHECK the "stateful firewall" option.

You'd expect better from Cisco, but the firewall
inside their VPN client is from ZoneLabs and the
Cisco/ZoneAlarm firewall is surprisingly stupid
and will block all the keep-alive packets.

Luckily, you can disable the firewall option.
