How was the printer setup in AIX? Did you use AIX's printer setup and
specified the printer type or similar printer type? If you did, I
believe that the AIX printing system does send some PCL to the printer
at the beginning and end of each print job. The initial setup by AIX
may be the problem.

Subject: [U2] PCL5/6 Universe / AIX printer setup question

Folks,
I've been struggling to find a solution to get a complex PCL string from
UniVerse on AIX to the printer without stripping out some of the escape
sequences. (The print routine works just fine on other systems - it's
not a
PCL question)

The problem we have encountered, is that when a complex set of PCL
escape
sequences is sent to the printer, including fonts, bar codes, box
drawing, etc
- all using PCL5/PCL6 command sequences some pieces don't print
properly.

What is bizarre, is that the boxes and bar codes are working properly,
but the
fonts print in courier.
I've tested this by just printing fonts, and they work just fine, but
when we
have a complex page (often over 10k), things don't happen properly.

I suspect that there may be a timing issue.
(I wonder if it could be a network issue).

This is the universe to aix spooler interface/device driver:
    cat - | lp -dISPRT2

This is the universe ISPRT code in the VOC:
    0001: PA
0002: DISPLAY Setting printer to ISPRT
    0003: SETPTR 0,132,82,3,3,1,FORM ISPRT2,BANNER ISPRT,BRIEF

To set the printer, ISPRT 2 is typed from ECL.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
