Subject: RE: [U2] Universe/Linux Performance Issue

1. T30FILE.
If your MFILES was set to the default, 12, then chances are T30FILE also
needs to be tweaked, given that you have so many dynamic files. I
assume you compared the old DG uvconfig to the new Linux one and can
account for the differences.

--
My MFILES increase was an 'educated guess'. It didn't really do
anything for me. I will most likely put it back to 12. The T30FILE is
set to 200 default, which appears to be fine. We are just under 100 on
that one.

Today I was comparing the DG uvconfig to the Linux to the defaults in
the manual. There are some differences in params that have to do with
i/o. I will experiment with these on a test machine and then live they
are;

Linux DG Default according to Manual
GLTABSZ 50 75 75
RLTABSZ 50 75 75
RLOWNER 50 300 300
MAXRLOCK 40 100 74

I don't ever recall changing these, so I don't know how they differed
from the defaults.

2. DISABLE-, BUILD.INDEX.
Try disabling indexes, do the cleanup, then rebuild the index. Kinda
hard to do if you have concurrent users, but try it on the test system.
This relates to Trevor's first comment about oversized items. If many
items are indexed by the same value, you can have a huge list of primary
ids that needs to be maintained. But I've seen performance improve even
by disabling evenly distributed index values. I don't see how that would
explain performance differences between DG & Linux, though.

-----
I will try this out as well

The differences in the uvconfig may well be enough to justify the
performance differences.
