Hi Dave SQL Server like Oracle, DB2 and other RDBMS are limited to a 2 dimensional table row * Column. There are a number of 3rd party products that attempt to create a multidimensional environment on top particularly for data warehousing but the underlying architecture is 2 dimensional.
Jbase and mvon allow multi-dimensional applications to use Oracle and SQL Server Databases, but this is done by breaking a single multi-value file into multiple SQL tables. For SQL to query the UniData database, the UniODBC driver has to make a multi-dimensional table look like multiple 2 dimension tables. OLE-DB has facilities for handling multidimensional data, in theory one should be able to load a multi-dimensional database into a .Net control for multi-dimensional data grid. This however is not so straight forward. I wanted to see if SQL has the equivalent of multivalues in Unidata. Or how does SQL handle mv's for instance.
