YES.

1. CREATE-FILE NEW19FILE 19
2. COPY FROM OLDTYPE1FILE TO NEW19FILE ALL

Now you have one directory with all the programs in longname format.

I use editplus on the windows side to load/modify using ftp, but
It has to be a Type19 file, for the reasons you have encountered :)
