Bill, If all you are trying to do is return a multi-valued "1" or "0" string for a multi-valued list of id's, you can use this in field 2 of your I-descriptor:
0002: CATS(REUSE(@ID:"*"), @RECORD<35>) ; TRANS("ARTLEDGER", @1, 0, "X") ;
NES(@2, REUSE(""))
Note that @RECORD<35> can be replaced with the actual dictionary name for
field 35.
